Fight for billboard space around Little Caesars Arena figures to grow as opening nears

The race is on to find new spaces for billboards and other outdoor display advertising surrounding the new Detroit Red Wings arena by the time it opens in September 2017. The $627.5 million Little Caesars Arena location at I-75 and Woodward Avenue, as the anchor of 50 blocks of new offices, restaurants, stores and housing, makes the project attractive for billboard companies. "There will be a bidding war among the media companies for those optimal locations," said Jeff Stoltman, a Wayne State University professor of marketing. "They're basically buying those things on a long-term lease. The people who own the buildings know that."
