Steps to Recruit

The five steps below will help you effectively recruit our business students for internships and full-time positions. These steps will ensure maximum exposure and success for your organization.

1. Establish a Handshake recruiting account (online)

WSU partners with Handshake to coordinate seamless campus recruiting services, including career fairs, job postings, events, student referrals, employer communication, and data collection. Please log in or create a free Handshake account and connect with Wayne State University to recruit interns and full-time candidates from the Mike Ilitch School of Business.

2. Attend the Mike Ilitch School of Business Career fairs (in-person)

Attending a campus career fair offers employers direct access to a concentrated pool of eager, internship, and job-seeking students from diverse academic backgrounds. It provides a unique platform to showcase the company's culture, opportunities, and values, helping to attract and engage top talent. Career fairs also allow employers to make personal connections, collect resumes, and conduct on-the-spot interviews, significantly speeding up the recruitment process. Additionally, participating in these events enhances the company's visibility on campus, fostering a positive reputation among students and faculty, which can lead to long-term recruitment success. Event registration can be found on Handshake.

3. Host student professional development events (in-person or virtual)

Employers who host student professional development events gain the opportunity to shape and nurture future talent while enhancing their company's reputation. These events allow companies to provide valuable training, mentorship, and industry insights, helping our business students develop the skills needed to succeed in internships and careers. Employers can build strong relationships with potential interns and future employees by investing in students' growth and increasing their chances of attracting top talent. Ilitch School Career Services is here to help you develop long-lasting partnerships with our students, student organizations, faculty, and staff. We will work to create customized solutions that best meet your hiring needs. From posting jobs to business career fairs to hosting business recruiting events, we look forward to working with you every step of the way. Your company may get started by filling out the online recruitment interest form.

4. Host interviews for business students (in-person or virtual)

Hosting campus interviews allows employers to efficiently connect with a large pool of potential intern and full-time candidates in a focused setting. This process provides direct access to top students actively seeking opportunities, enabling companies to identify high-caliber talent early. By conducting interviews on campus, employers can streamline their hiring process, gain deeper insights into candidates' skills and cultural fit, and strengthen their brand presence within the university. It also fosters a positive relationship with the institution, which can lead to ongoing access to emerging talent. Interviews can be requested through Handshake or by emailing ilitchcareers@wayne.edu.

5. Connect with business student organizations

Connecting Ilitch School student organizations offers employers valuable opportunities to engage with motivated and diverse talent pools. These organizations often attract students with specific interests, skills, and leadership qualities, providing a direct line to interns and future industry leaders. Employers can build brand awareness, foster relationships, and gain insights into emerging trends by partnering with student groups. To connect with student organizations, you must be involved in the first four steps of the recruiting process. Please email ilitchcareers@wayne.edu if you would like to connect with our student organizations.
