Faculty-led programs
Studying abroad is a life-changing opportunity for Ilitch School students. Each of our faculty-led programs exposes you to new cultures, cuisine, language and locations, all serving to expand your appreciation and knowledge of the destination you selected. Just as importantly, you will learn about international business practices from our network of corporate friends based in the international cities you'll visit and who will guide you through their plants and offices on observational tours. If you have questions about the travel portion of the program, please contact Margaret Ogg, program manager, Study Abroad & Global Programs.
Eligibility
All Mike Ilitch School of Business graduate and undergraduate students who are in good academic standing are eligible to apply for a study abroad program. Graduate students must have a 3.0 or higher GPA, and undergraduate students must have a 2.0 or higher GPA to be considered. However, certain programs may require a higher cumulative GPA and professional status as a student to participate. Faculty leaders also may require a written essay of a student's program goals and/or individual interviews before acceptance to a program is offered. Students may participate in one program per academic year.
Other WSU graduate or undergraduate students may apply to register for a study abroad course in business but are not eligible for Ilitch School program stipends or scholarships. Students from other WSU degree programs are strongly advised to meet with their program advisor before applying.
Graduate credit
Graduate students in the Ilitch School's M.B.A. program may have an Ilitch School faculty-led study abroad course apply toward either their concentration or elective credit hours. Interested students should contact both Margaret Ogg, program manager, Study Abroad & Global Programs, and their Ilitch School academic advisor to review how the study abroad program would apply toward their degree and to begin the faculty-led application process.
Additionally, a student may choose to apply for a study abroad program for personal enrichment but should be aware that any credit hours awarded for completed course(s) will not be applied toward their graduate degree program and they will continue to be responsible for the associated tuition.
For specific information about how a faculty-led program would affect your academic plan, please consult with your Ilitch School academic advisor.
Undergraduate credit
Undergraduate students majoring in finance, global supply chain management, marketing, technology, information systems and analytics (TISA) and management may be able to count the study abroad course toward their major elective, while accounting undergraduate students may apply the course toward remaining Free Elective credit.
Additionally, a student may choose to apply for a study abroad program for personal enrichment. However, if they do so, the three credit hours awarded upon successful completion of the course will be posted to their transcript, but it will not apply toward their degree program and the student will continue to be responsible for the associated tuition.
Please contact Louise Moceri, director of international and study abroad programs for more information.
