Community invited to July 20 groundbreaking ceremony for new Ilitch School building
Wayne State University will host a groundbreaking ceremony on the future site of the Mike Ilitch School of Business — a project made possible by a $40 million gift from Mike and Marian Ilitch, the largest donation in the university’s history. The event takes place Wednesday, July 20, on the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and Temple Street in the District Detroit.
Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson; Christopher Ilitch, president and CEO of Ilitch Holdings, Inc.; Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan; and Robert Forsythe, dean of the Mike Ilitch School of Business, will break ground on the site and offer brief remarks.
Wayne State students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to join local community members at the groundbreaking to celebrate the beginning of a new era in business education in Detroit. The new Ilitch School building, which will serve more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students, will provide new flexible teaching, research, o ffice and community spaces for students and faculty, bringing Wayne State’s outstanding programs closer to Detroit’s business community.
The event opens at 11 a.m. with the program taking place from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Light refreshments will follow the program. Complimentary parking is available on Wayne State's campus with free shuttle service running to and from the groundbreaking site. Detailed information will be sent via email upon RSVP.
