The Advancing Career Experience (ACE) Mentor Program launches at Ilitch School Career Services

The Mike Ilitch School of Business is dedicated to helping students not only receive a world class business education but find their calling in a fulfilling career. As a part of this mission, we are announcing the new Advancing Career Experience (ACE) Mentor Program, designed to give students real-world guidance from local, regional and national industry professionals.

This program, created and managed by the Ilitch School Career Services Office, will pair participating students with mentors occupying key positions around metro Detroit, in a wide variety of industries. Students and mentors will engage in flexible, online sessions from January to April 2025, where the mentees are invited to ask questions, and mentors will provide advice from their experience in the corporate world.

The ACE Mentor Program is the latest of several mentorship opportunities available to students. Other examples include the Corporate Mentorship Program which aims to pair first-generation students with a mentor in an industry of interest for the student. The Multicultural Professional Readiness Education Program (MPREP), a learning community at the Ilitch School focusing on academic success, career readiness and professional development, also works with partners to pair students with appropriate mentors for their career ambitions.

Susan Crowley, Director of the Career Services Office, was excited to see this new program roll out, commenting that “The ACE Mentor Program is a vital extension of the Ilitch School Career Services, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application. By connecting students with experienced professionals, we empower them to gain industry insights, build meaningful networks, and develop the confidence to navigate their career paths. Aligned with the President’s College-to-Career initiative and Ilitch School's commitment to fostering professional growth and preparing students for leadership roles, the ACE Mentor Program allows students opportunities for personal and professional development, reinforcing our dedication to shaping the next generation of business leaders.”

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business prepares students for challenging and rewarding careers, advances the boundaries of scholarly and practitioner knowledge, and enhances the economic vitality of the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and beyond through its programs, research and community engagement. Established in 1946, the business school was renamed in 2015 in recognition of a $40 million gift from Mike and Marian Ilitch. Thanks to this lead investment, the school moved to a new state-of-the-art building in the heart of the District Detroit in 2018, and academic programming and collaboration with city businesses are expanding.
