Ilitch School student Fahmida Khanom receives $3500 scholarship through the U.S. Department of State

Fahmida Khanom, a marketing major at the Mike Ilitch School of Business, has been selected to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship out of a pool of over 1000 applicants. This $3500 award for study abroad will be used to allow Khanom to participate in the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic and Poland: Global Business Experience

The Gilman Program, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs offers awards for undergraduate students to study abroad and provides them with skills critical to the national security and economic prosperity of the United States.

The Global Business Experiences Programs, offered through the Mike Ilitch School of Business, aim to provide students with perspectives on how business is conducted in a global context, and offers programs in England, Central Europe and Italy. Faculty accompany students on tours of international companies and facilities, museums and cultural institutions.

Khanom was excited to receive this award, commenting that “I am grateful to have been chosen for this scholarship, and I'm excited for the opportunities ahead and experiences I will gain.”

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business prepares students for challenging and rewarding careers, advances the boundaries of scholarly and practitioner knowledge, and enhances the economic vitality of the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and beyond through its programs, research and community engagement. Established in 1946, the business school was renamed in 2015 in recognition of a $40 million gift from Mike and Marian Ilitch. Thanks to this lead investment, the school moved to a new state-of-the-art building in the heart of the District Detroit in 2018, and academic programming and collaboration with city businesses are expanding.
