Ilitch School Marketing Department Chair Abhijit Biswas named Distinguished Professor

The Mike Ilitch School of Business is proud to announce that Professor Abhijit Biswas has been appointed to the rank of Distinguished Professor by the WSU Board of Governors on September 13, 2024.

The rank of distinguished professor recognizes those of the highest academic achievement, and those who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their academic field. Senior members of the WSU faculty are considered for this role only after a review shows a long record of top scholarship, excellent research and extraordinary contributions. Biswas’ 20-year academic track record at the Ilitch School has marked him as worthy of this designation.

Biswas joined the Ilitch School faculty in 2004 as the Kmart Endowed Chair and Professor of Marketing. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in pricing from the American Marketing Association in 2022. He was appointed Chair of the Marketing Department in 2023 and, in the same year, was named a Distinguished Faculty Fellow by the WSU Board of Governors. He has been awarded the Ilitch School of Business Excellence in Research Award in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2021.

In addition to these accomplishments, Biswas boasts a long record of research publications and has served on numerous editorial review boards. Biswas is also known for his work with Ph.D. students and junior faculty members, many of whom are now well-established in their own fields.

Ilitch School Dean Virginia Kleist noted that “Dr. Biswas is very well deserving of this honor. He is internationally recognized as a top scholar and is an excellent research mentor to our junior faculty and PhD students in the Marketing Department. He is known for his high caliber research and productivity and is a genuinely kind and supportive person, assisting many to further their own careers through his support and research leadership. He has set the Ilitch School apart in terms of our national stature due to the caliber and quality of his work.”

Biswas conducts research and publishes articles on a wide range of marketing topics including behavioral pricing, advertising, and consumer decision-making.
