Dr. Attila Yaprak, WSU Mike Ilitch School of Business professor of marketing and international business and director of the MISB doctoral programs was recently elected a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) for his outstanding contributions to the international business field. He was one of only nine Fellows elected this year. There are approximately 150 active AIB Fellows worldwide.

Dean Virginia Kleist said, “Dr. Yaprak is a pillar of the Ilitch School of Business Ph.D. Program, having been one of the founding members of its inception. He is always generous with his time and energy at the Ilitch School of Business, helping students, working with faculty, participating, and engaging, and he always does so with a cheerful and encouraging demeanor. He is a renowned international business researcher and one of the top scholars in international business worldwide; this accolade is so well-deserved."

The Academy of International Business (AIB) is the leading association of international business scholars around the world. It has more than 3,300 members located in about 90 countries. The AIB elects new Fellows each year; the election is based on lifetime contributions to the international business discipline through scholarship, teaching, and service to the AIB and to the academy. Yaprak will be inducted into Fellowship at a special meeting of the Fellows on June 7 and will be officially recognized at the AIB’s 2023 conference in Warsaw, Poland in July this year.

“Being named a Fellow of the Academy of International Business acknowledges Yaprak’s long and distinguished academic career. His many contributions and accomplishments during his 40+ year career is certainly worthy of AIB’s highest honor,” said Dr. Abhijit Biswas, chair of the Ilitch School of Business marketing department.

Yaprak served AIB in many roles while also contributing to the growth of the international business discipline through his scholarship and teaching, not only at Wayne State but in many countries around the world. “Helping elevate international business education and research throughout my career was a lifetime dream fulfilled for me,” said Yaprak.

Yaprak has impacted international business education—in the classroom, in graduate student training, in scholarship, and in faculty development—as well as in executive suites across the U.S. and around the world. He has conducted research on international marketing strategy and cross-national consumer behavior.  In addition, Yaprak has served on numerous federal and international research funding panels and editorial boards of many scholarly journals in international business and marketing.

Yaprak holds a Ph.D. in international business and marketing from Georgia State University, and an MBA and a BS in business administration from Indiana University. He has taught international business and marketing at Wayne State University for 44 years, as well as in many business schools around the world, including Austria, France, Germany, Spain, and Türkiye. He has consulted for the World Trade Organization (WTO) of the United Nations (UN) in China, Nepal, Thailand, and the Philippines.
