Crain's: Temple West project includes new parking garage, possible residential, office space in District Detroit

Construction is underway on a new $30 million mixed-use project in The District Detroit area expected to be complete by the end of next year. The 285,000-square-foot Temple West building is planned to include seven floors of parking with 730 spaces plus 3,600 square feet of retail space on the first floor at the corner of Temple Street and Park Avenue. Office and/or residential space could also be included in the mix, said Ed Saenz, director of communications for the Ilitch family's Detroit-based Olympia Development of Michigan, which is spearheading the 45- to 50-block District Detroit project north of downtown anchored by the Little Caesars Arena for the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons. Specific amounts of office or residential space have not been determined, he said. Many projects are in varying stages of completion in the area, including a new local office for Google, a new Little Caesars headquarters, the new Mike Ilitch School of Business for Wayne State University and several residential developments and historic rehabilitations of existing buildings expected to bring nearly 700 units to the market.
