Abhijit Biswas to receive AMA Retail and Pricing SIG Lifetime Achievement Award

Mike Ilitch School of Business Kmart Endowed Chair and Professor of Marketing Abhijit Biswas has been selected to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association Retail and Pricing Special Interest Group (AMA RAPSIG). He will be presented with the award at the 2022 AMA Summer Academic Conference in August.

The award honors individuals in marketing (with a specific focus on retail and pricing) with at least 20 years of academic experience post Ph.D. who have contributed significantly to the field of retail and pricing. Nominations are reviewed by a panel of distinguished retailing scholars.

As of May 2022, Biswas has published 99 refereed papers, 55 of which are in academic journals. His papers have been published in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Retailing, Journal of International Business Studies and Journal of Advertising, among others. Biswas is a prolific researcher who has achieved significant recognition over his career. He has been ranked as the 10th-most-published pricing researcher in the world from 1980 to 2010. In addition, Biswas was ranked as the second-highest published author in the Journal of Retailing between 2000 and 2007. An article he co-authored with Ilitch School Ph.D. graduate Swati Verma and former Ilitch School marketing faculty member Abhijit Guha was named runner-up for the 2020 JR Davidson Award for the best paper published in the Journal of Retailing. Biswas also received the Ilitch School’s Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Research in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2020.

Biswas serves on multiple editorial review boards, including for the Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing and Journal of Business Research. He previously served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Advertising and Journal of Public Policy and Management. He also served as one of the area associate editors for the Journal of Business Research from 1995 to 2007, during which time he received the Michel Laroche Outstanding Associate Editor Award. In 2012, he co-organized the Pricing Conference in Detroit bringing leading academics to the city to discuss pricing research.

In addition to his own research, Biswas also takes a very active role in developing and mentoring the next generation of marketing scholars focused on retailing and/or pricing. He has mentored numerous Ph.D. students over his career and takes a role in mentoring early-stage faculty. Many of Biswas’ mentees have achieved tenure at leading business schools at universities including the University of South Carolina, Baylor University, University of Memphis, University of Seoul, IIM-Ahmedabad, University of San Francisco, Indiana State University and the University of South Florida.
