Departmental honors

Current Mike Ilitch School of Business students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher may enroll in courses with an honors component assignment option and complete the 15 required credits to qualify for an honors distinction on their transcript and diploma at graduation.

Eligibility

The departmental honors distinction is open to all business students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. To declare departmental honors, complete this application.

Requirements

To earn the departmental honors distinction on a transcript and diploma at the time of graduation, students must:

  • Maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher
  • Complete classes with Honors Option designation:
    • One core requirement (3 credits)
      • BA 3400, FIN 3290, MKT 2300, MGT 2530, ISM 3630 or GSC 3600
    • One major requirement (3 credits)
    • One additional business requirement (3 credits) with an Honors Option 
      • Any core class, major class, or any 2000 level or higher business foundation course
    • Complete an honors thesis in an upper-level class (5000 or above) in their major field of study.  
    • HON 4200 level class (3 credits)
