Ilitch School Announces Larry Brinker Jr. to receive Michigan Executive of the Year Award

The Mike Ilitch School of Business has announced that Larry Brinker Jr. Has been selected to receive the 2023 Michigan Executive of the Year Award at the 43rd annual Recognition and Awards Program. 

Brinker Jr. is an award-winning entrepreneur, impact investor and mentor who currently serves as CEO of Brinker, a group of family-owned and operated commercial construction service companies playing a critical role in the revitalization of Detroit through managing several billion dollars in construction projects in the city. He also serves as CEO of the Brinker Family Asset Management Company. 

A mission driven investor, Brinker Jr. is making an impact in the community by investing in entrepreneurial development programs, philanthropic ventures, scholarship programs and technology. This led him to co-found Capsa Money Inc., a new model for banking which provides better access to essential financial services to the underbanked. 

He has been recognized time and time again for his business acumen. Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40” and Detroit Business Magazine’s “30 In Their 30’s,” and has received the 2017 “Next Generation Entrepreneur Award” from the National Business League. In 2018, he received the “EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award,” and in 2022 he received the University of Michigan Merit Award. 

Brinker Jr. will be honored on November 17, 2023, at the 43rd annual Recognition and Awards Program at the Roostertail. He will be honored next to the recipients of this year’s Emerging Leader Award, Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Student Award, Inspirational Teacher Award, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hall of Fame Award and the Corporate Mentorship Program Founders Awards.
