Sujay Dutta, associate professor of marketing at Wayne State University's Mike Ilitch School of Business, shares insights about what consumers should consider when selecting a credit card. "A card that handsomely rewards the most frequent expenditure categories. For example, if one spends on groceries and restaurants frequently, then a card that offers high rewards for expenditure in those categories should be attractive," Dutta said. "Also, it will be helpful if the card has minimal restrictions on reward redemption, allowing one to apply the savings to those frequent categories if one so chooses. This might help mentally "blunt" the sting of such frequent expenditures."
