The Mike Ilitch School of Business welcomes Andy McAnelly, Adjunct Professor of Accounting

I'm Andy McAnelly, an Ilitch School alumnus from the class of 2019 and a University of Michigan Ross School of Business alumnus from the Masters of Accounting class of 2020. I'm an Elijah Watt Sells award winner and I have spent time working in private and public accounting.

What are your primary teaching interests?

I'm primarily interested in teaching accounting courses at any level with a fresh and exciting perspective.

What are your primary research interests?

As an adjunct, I won't be doing much research, however, I would be interested in the intersection of financial reporting and psychology.

Tell me about your background in Technology?

I grew up largely in the first internet generation, and technology has been engrained in all parts of my education and life experience. I have experience working with Fortune 100 level ERP systems, on down to small business accounting systems.

Why did you come to the Ilitch School of Business?

Being an alum, it was an easy choice to come back to a place that holds a lot of great memories for me.

What makes you passionate about business education?

I'm passionate about helping people understand and grow to achieve their goals. I think that being a business educator puts me in a privileged position to give students the tools to do just that.

What is one thing you wish all your students would do?

I wish all of my students would try to develop a cohesive understanding of subjects and not memorize items as often. I'm excited to play a role in trying to build that skill.

What are you excited about seeing in Detroit?

I'm excited to see Wayne State's continued growth.
