The Mike Ilitch School of Business hosts second Non-Profit Knowledge Exchange, in partnership with Share Detroit

The Mike Ilitch School of Business is integrated into the Detroit business community, providing support and expertise to local businesses. On January 24, representatives from nonprofit organizations from across southeast Michigan gathered in the Ilitch School Lear auditorium for networking over breakfast, breakout development sessions and a keynote address.

Hosted by the Ilitch School in partnership with Share Detroit, an organization that serves as a conduit for nonprofits, businesses and community members to work together to strengthen the local community.

The keynote address was delivered by Chris Lambert, founder and CEO of Life Remodeled, an organization that revitalizes communities through repurposing of vacant properties. He spoke about the importance of growing your organization and board of directors with a strategic vision, and adherence to core mission and values.

Following the keynote, participants attended breakout sessions hosted by Warrior Consulting Group, a Mike Ilitch School of Business student organization, focusing on fundraising, marketing and promotion, financial accounting and technology, essential skills for nonprofit success.

This event was organized by Kevin Ketels, associate professor of global supply chain management, and director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation programs at the Ilitch School. He was pleased with the success of this event, commenting that “This was a great opportunity to bring the non-profit community together to share best practices and engage our outstanding students.”

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business prepares students for challenging and rewarding careers, advances the boundaries of scholarly and practitioner knowledge, and enhances the economic vitality of the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and beyond through its programs, research and community engagement. Established in 1946, the business school was renamed in 2015 in recognition of a $40 million gift from Mike and Marian Ilitch. Thanks to this lead investment, the school moved to a new state-of-the-art building in the heart of the District Detroit in 2018, and academic programming and collaboration with city businesses are expanding.
