Two Mike Ilitch School of Business students, Maryam Roel and Maxwell Ramirez, received the Financial Executives International Academic Awards from Financial Executives International (FEI).

FEI, an association comprised of members in the finance and accounting industries, provides professional development opportunities and career advancement for its members. Each year they present this award to one undergraduate and one graduate student in Southeastern Michigan with an outstanding academic and service record, and a demonstrated commitment to accounting and finance. This year, Mike Ilitch School of Business students took home both awards.

The students were awarded at an awards ceremony and reception hosted by FEI on February 19, 2025.

Roel, a first-generation student pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting received the undergraduate award. Upon her graduation in May 2025, she is planning to pursue an MBA at the Ilitch School, beginning in the summer of 2025. Over the course of her career as a student, she has held three internships that have prepared her for college-to-career success. She completed an accounting internship at DA Advisory Group, an audit internship at Deloitte and was a finance intern at BorgWarner.

Ramirez, an MBA student at the Ilitch School studying finance, received the graduate level award from FEI. Ramirez earned his associate’s degree in liberal arts from Washtenaw Community College, and a bachelor’s in informatics from University of Michigan. Currently, he serves as an IT Systems Administrator for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

These awards are indicative of the high caliber of education available at the Mike Ilitch School of Business. To learn more about our degree programs, head to our website.

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business prepares students for challenging and rewarding careers, advances the boundaries of scholarly and practitioner knowledge, and enhances the economic vitality of the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and beyond through its programs, research and community engagement. Established in 1946, the business school was renamed in 2015 in recognition of a $40 million gift from Mike and Marian Ilitch. Thanks to this lead investment, the school moved to a new state-of-the-art building in the heart of the District Detroit in 2018, and academic programming and collaboration with city businesses are expanding.
