Ilitch School emeritus faculty awarded prestigious Hans B. Thorelli Award for impactful marketing research

Two emeritus professors at the Mike Ilitch School of Business were awarded the 2024 Hans B. Thorelli Award for their paper “Will the Real-World Citizen Please Stand Up! The Many Faces of Cosmopolitan Consumer Behavior.” This award is given annually to a research paper that has had a significant impact, and long-term contribution to international marketing theory and practice.

The paper was published in 2002 by Attila Yaprak, professor emeritus of marketing and international business and Hugh G. Cannon, professor emeritus of marketing. Their paper covers the globalization of marketing activities, and proposes several patterns of cosmopolitan behavior and their effects on marketing practices.

Named for Hans B. Thorelli, one of the first to develop marketing as a field of study, this award reviews previous publications and selects those that have made a significant impact. Cannon and Yaprak’s paper have been cited 454 times since its original publication, making it well qualified for this award.

This award is indicative of the research prowess at the Mike Ilitch School of Business. As a Carnegie R1 university, Wayne State University strives to produce the highest caliber research into cutting edge topics.
