Dr. Hakan Yildiz Awarded the 2023-24 Wayne State University Career Development Chair Award
Dr. Hakan Yildiz, Associate Professor and recently selected Chair of the WSU Mike Ilitch School of Business Global Supply Chain Management Department, was awarded the prestigious 2023-24 Wayne State University Career Development Chair Award. Up to ten awards are made annually as part of WSU's program to support outstanding, tenured faculty members as they work toward promotion to professor. The award includes an honorarium, research support and funds to cover up to half of the chairholder's normal annual teaching assignment.
"We at the Ilitch School of Business are so proud of Dr. Yildiz who was selected from a group of highly qualified nominees," said Dean Virginia Franke Kleist. She continued, "This is a testament to his past and future impact on students and the business community and it acknowledges the importance of his contributions to the global supply chain management knowledge base." The award will be presented at Wayne State's Academic Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, April 27.
"I am very pleased to receive this award and grateful for the support I received from Dean Kleist and Associate Dean Greer during the application process," Yildiz said. He plans to use the Career Development Chair Award to support impactful research on the intersection of supply chain risk management and sustainability, which will help companies manage risks and opportunities associated with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) norms. Most recently, Yildiz led a research project on managing pandemic-induced supply chain disruptions, revealing important, actionable findings for companies. Like, complex disruption that showed a portfolio of strategies, consisting of inventory, time, and potentially capacity-based strategies, is generally more effective than an individual strategy.
He has conducted research with leading corporations and organizations that include Bosch, Dow Chemical, Kelly OCG, and Lear Corporation. Dr. Yildiz teaches Global Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Transportation Strategy, and Quality Management. He holds a Ph.D. and MS in Operations Research from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University.
