Los Angeles real estate executive does not forget Wayne State roots
Native Detroiter Quincy Allen has come a long way since his days as a young undergraduate student at Wayne State University, but his thoughts are never far from home.
After graduating from Detroit’s Renaissance High School and earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from what is now the Mike Ilitch School of Business, Allen moved to the West Coast. He is co-founder and managing partner of Arc Capital, a Los Angeles-based real estate platform that targets urban mixed-use environments in the path of millennial growth. In tandem with his business partner, Neville Rhone, Allen is responsible for overall firm strategy.
While Allen and his family have made a happy home in Southern California, he stays connected to his hometown and his alma mater. Allen serves on the Ilitch School’s Board of Visitors (BOV), where he helps advise and support the dean on the strategic direction and advancement of the school. Through his BOV role, Allen provides financial support to the school’s BOV Faculty Award for Student Impact. He has also supported the school’s study abroad program, which provides life-changing experiences for WSU business students each year.
Allen shared the importance of giving back to honor those that have come before you and paved the way for your success. “A big part of my development at Wayne State was studying abroad for a year,” said Allen. “Through contributions to the study abroad program, students have the opportunity to experience the world and gain perspectives that can profoundly change their worldview.”
Allen’s career in the real estate business spans 25 years with over $8 billion of transaction experience. Prior to forming Arc Capital, he was managing director and investment committee member of Canyon Capital Realty Advisors. There, he led the acquisitions team for the Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds, a partnership between the company and Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and invested over $3 billion in urban real estate. Before joining Canyon, Allen held a number of investment positions, including as an executive with Lazard Frères and Vice President of Archstone Communities.
In addition to his WSU degree, Allan also has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute, Pension Real Estate Association, the National Multi-Housing Council and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
