October workshops will give metro Detroiters a fresh outlook on "landing a job in a crummy economy"

Wayne State University joins alumna, career-planning expert and author Therese Marie Boldt to provide hands-on training for job-seekers at WSU’s main and satellite campuses

In her new book Yes! You Can Land A Job (Even) In A Crummy Economy, author Therese Marie Boldt, a professional recruiter and career coach with more than 20 years experience in human resources, reveals the alarming odds stacked against Michigan’s unemployed workers.

Per Boldt’s research, a typical job seeker has between a one-in-3,000 and a one-in-15,000 chance of landing a job when using the services of a professional job recruiter. The odds become even less favorable with conventional job search methods, such as Internet or newspaper advertisements.

According to Boldt, novel strategies and non-traditional methods, when practiced and adopted, can help job seekers overcome economic obstacles to finding employment and even illuminate the path to a long-term, satisfying career.

In October, the Wayne State University Alumni Association as part of its ongoing CareerBoost series will partner with the School of Business Administration and Boldt to present workshops aimed at teaching job seekers new ways to invigorate a stagnant job search. Workshop participants will learn to:

  • Understand ways most people look for work and see how ineffective they are in landing a job
  • Take a more active approach to their job search so they will get results vs. rejection
  • Determine the best place to market yourself
  • Develop an effective presentation that will get you noticed, and more.
