Deborah L. Habel, M.B.A., CPA, CGMA, CITP, PMP, is an authority in the design, analysis and improvement of business processes through the implementation of enterprise resource planning systems. After a long practitioner career, she transitioned to her "second act" ultimately joining the Ilitch School faculty in 2014. She frequently adapts examples from her past experience in public accounting and consulting, generating comprehensive case projects for her students; "Comparative Analysis of Publicly Traded Regional Brewers," is used to teach students to read, understand, and analyze corporate financial statements, and "ERP Systems Selection - A Needs Based Approach" requires students to analyze a scenario company's business needs, prepare a short-list of software systems that might serve them well, and a present their recommendations for final selection and implementation.

Deb primarily teaches the graduate and undergraduate versions of Accounting Systems: Design and Control (ACC 5130 and ACC 7145). She also is the course coordinator for Introduction to Financial Accounting (ACC3010) and Introduction to Managerial Accounting (ACC3020). She has taught the cross-coded undergraduate Enterprise Resource Planning Systems course (ACC 5200 and ISM 5200), and the undergraduate and graduate Special Topics in Global Supply Chain "Decision Making under Constraints" (GSM 5670/7260). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Prof Habel is a student in the Global Executive Track PhD program co-directed by the Mike Ilitch School of Business and the College of Engineering. Prof Habel is considering the impact of new technologies on the Accounting and Finance function for her dissertation research. Of particular interest are the current innovations in Big Data and Blockchain.

Since that clearly isn't "enough," Deb also actively serves her profession as a Trustee of the Michigan Accountancy Foundation, CPA Academic Champion and a case competition judge for AICPA-CIMA. She remains active with the Michigan Association of CPAs as a Past-Chair of the Accounting Educators' Task Force. Here at Wayne, she serves on the Ilitch Faculty Senate, chairing the Undergraduate Education Policy Committe.
