Mark Habel

Biography

Mark Habel has over 40 years of experience in real estate in nine states, including as a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in Michigan. His experience also includes the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)/Federal Housing Administration (FHA), where he served as Chief of Housing Programs in the Michigan State Office for five years. 

Habel has also been the Vice President of Technical Services in the Midwest Regional Office of Midland Mortgage Investment Corporation, an independent consultant on FHA/HUD, executive director of a Detroit non-profit housing corporation, and a licensed real estate broker. His positions have included underwriter of both commercial loans and mortgage insurance, credit analyst and credit reviewer, mortgage processor, and audit clearance officer.

As a board member, he has been president of two non-profit corporations and chief financial officer of five. Since 2015, he has mentored Ilitch School students interested in real estate. 

Habel has extensive experience underwriting and appraising complex urban properties, especially in Detroit, and with new construction, rehabilitation and adaptive re-use, especially in the multi-family sector, senior and assisted living and large-scale multi-phase construction projects. Clients have included some of the country's largest banks and the City of Detroit. Spreadsheet programs he has written have been used under contract with FHA/HUD.

Habel is also an Affiliate with the Appraisal Institute.
