Research and teaching interests
Teaching a wide variety of courses in management, strategy, entrepreneurism and improvisation at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as business and entrepreneur courses for dual enrollment and other high school students.
Biography
Mr. Shields has 35 years of experience teaching business courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with an emphasis on management, organization behavior (including creativity and improvisation) and entrepreneurism. He has owned and operated his own businesses for the last 20 years and worked with more than 2000 small and start-up businesses as part of the university's former Small Business Development Center and Technology Transfer Center. He is an advisor for the student entrepreneur organization Innovation Warriors, the university's C2 Pipeline high school entrepreneur program, and the MISB high school entrepreneur training program YEA in partnership with the National Association of Women Business Owners. Mr. Shields also sits on a university-wide advisory committee on entrepreneurism.
