Wayne State's new Mike Ilitch School of Business begins to take shape

The new Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business is taking shape with the initial steel structure erected at the new site at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Temple Street in downtown Detroit.

Construction of the $50 million development is being led by Detroit-based Christman-Brinker, a joint venture of Lansing-based The Christman Co. and commercial contracting firm Brinker Group, based in Detroit. Design is being led by Detroit-based architectural firm Smith Group JJR.

Dean Robert Forsythe said he is most excited about the school's location because it will allow the university and The District Detroit to offer more opportunities to students.

"Many can walk to their internships and we're putting together new certificates and concentration programs," he said. "There will be a concentration in sports and entertainment management and it can be right here near four professional sports teams and the Fox. And we're putting together a certificate program in entrepreneurship. With all the young new startups in the area, it will provide our students an opportunity to work with all of them."
