WDIV 1/27/2024 8:13:29 AM: ...accomplish their goals. so to talk about that, we have jeanette phillips and kevin kettles here in the studio from wayne state and share detroit. this was a great event that you held to put everybody together in one room. so first of all, tell me what share. detroit is doing and how that works. >> hi. hi. thanks for having us. uh, share detroit is a website that brings nonprofits together, so that the community can find them and figure out ways to help. oh, okay. so we have 365 nonprofits there with 350 different volunteer year needs that are, you know, pressing to the nonprofits. and so kevin and i, um, and our teams work together for the past several months to host this nonprofit clinic. um, nonprofit day to learn from his students. >> gotcha. so give me an example . i'll get to you in a second here, kevin. but give me an example if how you would be used. let's say i'm i'm somebody, somebody in the community. and i need help doing x, y and z. is that where you come in? >> yes. and on charity. org if you need support from, um, let's say someone needs a ramp built in their home. they can visit detroit. org and find a nonprofit that might build that ramp for them or they might need funding after a cancer diagnosis. so we are a research tool for people in need, but also what happens is the nonprofits put up the needs that they have for volunteer for support. okay. um like people who want to build ramps or a lot of times it's skills based needs . so accounting help, marketing help figure out how to use tiktok. yeah. um how do i sign up for that one? >> uh, grant writing. so essentially we right there are so many great nonprofits in detroit. you just don't know how to get to them. so you're the clearinghouse, right? yeah, exactly. all right, so, kevin, over at wayne state university, your event was recently, and you put all of these nonprofits or some of them together with students in one room. >> yes, that's right. and we wanted to give the opportunity for the students to make an impact in our own community and get experience talking to them about marketing and operations. and so it was a fantastic event. we probably had 175 people there. wow um, 125 were representing nonprofit efforts. maybe another 50 students and faculty. but it we like to create great business students, but we also want them to make an ...
