Volunteer tax preparers needed for Detroit community

The Accounting Aid Society provides free income tax and credit preparation and coaching for middle- to low-income households, and the organization is looking for Mike Ilitch School of Business students to become volunteer tax preparers for Detroit residents.

A tax refund is often the largest amount of money that a family or individual receives all year — and that refund helps pay bills, puts food on the table and keeps people in their homes.

If you want to make a difference for others while gaining valuable networking opportunities, personal development and community involvement, the Collegiate Tax Volunteer Program could be for you.

Volunteers will:

  • Be a part of Mayor Duggan’s EITC Initiative and help people claim up to $6,200
  • Connect directly with the community and learn a new skill
  • Strengthen and re-invest in your neighborhood
  • Build your resumé and connect with our corporate partners

To get involved, you must complete training in basic tax law and TaxSlayer software on Wayne State's campus or online. Then, you can register for volunteer opportunities via the Accounting Aid Society's website
