Twelve Softball Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-GLIAC Excellence Team Recognition

WSU second among conference schools in Excellence Team honorees.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball program had 12 GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recipients for the 2023 season, which marks the 10th straight year the Warriors have had at least 10 student-athletes receive All-Academic accolades.  The 12 All-Academic Excellence honorees, is just one shy of the school record total of 13 set in 2021.  Wayne State has had 120 GLIAC All-Academic honorees over the last 10 years.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were seniors Emily Guzzo (London, Ont.), Becky Hodder (Orangeville, Ont.), Gabby Kaple (Galion, Ohio), Brooke Nadolny (Clinton Twp., Mich. / L'Anse Creuse) and Breanna Paolatto (Belle River, Ont.), juniors Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) and Shelby Miller (Georgetown, Ont.), along with sophomores Sydney Bogden (Shelby Township, Mich. / Utica Eisenhower), Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central), Mady Ruczynski (Richmond, Mich. / Armada) and Leah Wrubel (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Mattawan), and redshirt freshman Jessie O'Donnell (Campbellville, Ont.).

Guzzo (Biological Sciences), Hodder (Exercise and Sport Science), Kaple (Electrical Engineering), Nadolny (master's in Sports Administration) and Paolatto (Psychology) were named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for the third consecutive year.  Bonk (Psychology) and Miller (Marketing) earned All-Academic Excellence honors for the second straight season.  Bogden (Management), Josephson (Nursing), Ruczynski (Mechanical Engineering), Wrubel (Design) and O'Donnell (Sport Management) were first-time eligible in 2023.

Wayne State set a school record with 254 Academic All-GLIAC honorees during the 2022-23 academic year.  WSU has produced 2,071 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last 11 years.
