Student teams invited to compete for $2,000 in second annual UHY, Ilitch Business “Taxitition”

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business and UHY are teaming up again to host the second annual (and first virtual) “Taxitition” tax case competition. Together with UHY, a leading national CPA firm with offices in Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, St. Clair and Macomb counties, the Ilitch School will host the three-day virtual case study competition Nov. 5-7.

The goal is to help students learn why understanding taxes is so important in the corporate world. Students will use critical thinking and creativity to compete for cash prizes of $2,000 for first place and $250 for second place.

The competition will be broken into three parts. On day one, student teams will hear about the case study and begin working on their presentations. On day two, they will meet (virtually) with UHY mentors so they can review their progress with seasoned tax professionals and refine their answers. The virtual competition on day three will be judged by a panel comprised of UHY professionals and Ilitch School faculty.

This competition is open to all Ilitch School students, both graduate and undergraduate. Students can register either as a team or an individual now through Oct. 23. This year’s theme is “When tax law becomes your business plan.”

Students can email Rina Henning at rhenning@uhy-us.com for more information.
