Student Spotlight: Nick Mutebi

Nick Mutebi, a senior management major and a captain of the Wayne State men's basketball team, recently earned GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team accolades for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Mutebi is receiving the award for the third time in his career. 

In March, Mutebi was announced as one of the 2018 25 under 25 winners for the Mike Ilitch School of Business. Read more about him below. 

Bio 

Since joining the Wayne State men's basketball team as a walk-on in 2014, Nicholas Mutebi became a team captain at the start of this season, and has made the GLIAC All-Academic team each year.

In 2017, Nicholas worked as a DC operations supervisor intern for Mast Global Logistics in Columbus, OH, where he gave direction to the audit and docking and staging processes within the department, was responsible for providing leadership to associates on the distribution center floor, and upgraded the staging and docking procedures.

He has been an active member in the Metro Detroit community as a mentor for students at local Detroit elementary and middle schools, in addition to participating in philanthropic endeavors such as Basic Needs Drives and the "Hashtag Lunchbag" events. Last semester, Nicholas led a school-wide clothing and sporting goods drive for Opening Doors, a nonprofit organization in Uganda run by his parents that provides a learning space for children with intellectual disabilities.

Nicholas is also a member of several organizations on campus including the Wayne State African Students Society and the WSU Student Athlete Leadership Council.
