State roundup: Wayne State rallies from 18 down for 35-31 win

With 45 seconds to go in Saturday’s game, wide receiver Dominique Maybanks barely got his back foot inbounds as he hauled in a pass from quarterback Mickey Mohner (an accounting major) in the back of the end zone. The 93-yard drive capped off 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to lift the Warriors over Lake Erie, 35-31. Mohner and running back Toney Davis led the charge in the final 15 minutes, accounting for all of Wayne State’s fourth-quarter points. Lake Erie led, 31-13, early in the final period, but Mohner threw for two touchdowns, and Davis ran for a TD to rally the Warriors. With the win, the Warriors avoiding starting 0-2 for the first time since 2005.
