State roundup: Martin powers Wayne State rally

Running back and management major Desmond Martin scored three touchdowns — two of them less than a minute apart — as Wayne State rallied past Malone, 39-15, in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action Saturday in Canton, Ohio. Wayne State (2-1, 1-1 GLIAC), hurt by turnovers, trailed 15-3 early in the second quarter and 15-10 at halftime, then outscored Malone (0-3, 0-3) 29-0 in the second half. The Warriors took the lead for good in the third quarter, as quarterback Carl Roscoe connected on a 29-yard pass to wide receiver Michael Johnson for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter Martin scored his two touchdowns, both on 3-yard runs, and Romello Brown ran it in from 8 yards out for the final margin. Martin finished with 200 yards on 29 carries. Roscoe, a finance major, finished 8-of-18 passing with three interceptions and the touchdown.
