Seven Men's Tennis Student-Athletes Garner GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Honors

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team had seven student-athletes named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team, which was the most in the conference. Over the last seven years, head coach Bryan Morrow has had 45 All-Academic recipients.

The seven All-Academic Excellence Team members honored for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.5 were graduate student Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany / Leibniz Gymnasium Gelsenkirchen), senior Ryan Okonski (Stevensville, Mich. / St. Joseph), redshirt juniors juniors Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) and Dom Spicer (London, England / Soto Tennis Academy [Spain]), along with juniors Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany / Gutenberg) and Joe Steele (Beverly Hills, Mich. / U. of Detroit Jesuit), and sophomore Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg).

Karcz (MBA) earned his fifth consecutive All-Academic Excellence award since freshmen and first-year transfer students are not eligible. Laws (Actuarial Mathematics) and Spicer (Management) received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the third consecutive year. Okonski (Global Supply Chain Management) earned Excellence Team honors for the second straight season after garnering All-Academic honors in 2021. Grey (Neuroscience) and Steele (Finance) were on the Excellence Team for the second consecutive year. Drenth (Management) was eligible for the first time this season.

Wayne State set a school record with 254 Academic All-GLIAC honorees during the 2022-23 academic year. WSU has produced 2,071 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last 11 years.
