Scott Tainsky appointed senior associate editor of Journal of Sport Management

Mike Ilitch School of Business Associate Professor of Management and Director of Sport and Entertainment Management Scott Tainsky has been appointed senior associate editor of Journal of Sport Management (JSM), a top journal in the sport management industry.

JSM is the official research journal of the North American Society for Sport Management. According to their website, JSM publishes “innovative empirical, theoretical and review articles focused on the governance, management and marketing of sports organizations.”

After three years as senior associate editor, the number two position at JSM, Tainsky will assume the editor-in-chief role.

The Ilitch School welcomed Tainsky to its sport and entertainment management program in the fall 2017 semester. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and worked previously as an associate professor at the University of Illinois in the department of recreation, sport and tourism.

Tainsky utilizes economics and quantitative analysis to research major professional, intercollegiate and amateur sports. At the core of this research are the decisions made by high-level sports managers and how they impact both organizational performance and the collective well-being of fans.

Tainsky was awarded the Ilitch School’s 2019 Distinguished Faculty Award for Research.
