New Ilitch School celebrates first anniversary by racking up design and construction awards

Wayne State University’s Mike Ilitch School of Business is set to receive two major design and construction awards this week from the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and CoreNet Global, respectively.

The ESD will recognize the Ilitch School as one of five recipients of the 2019 Construction and Design Award during its annual awards dinner on Tuesday, June 18 at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth. In its 45th year, the prestigious Construction and Design Awards are among the premier recognitions awarded to members of the construction industry and their projects.

These awards are unique in that they honor the three primary members of the building team: owners, designers and constructors. So, in addition to honoring the Ilitch School itself, ESD will recognize SmithGroup for its design of the building, and the Christman Company/LS Brinker Joint Venture as the constructors.

The Michigan Chapter of CoreNet Global has awarded the Ilitch School the 2019 Real Estate Project of the Year, which will be formally announced at the company’s annual awards ceremony Wednesday, June 19 at the Gem Theatre. CoreNet Global is an educational and networking organization that works to advance innovation and professional development for corporate real estate professionals.

Dean Robert Forsythe will accept both honors on behalf of the Mike Ilitch School of Business.

The new Ilitch School has also been awarded the following awards:

  • 2019 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)/Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) National Excellence in Design Award for Lighting
  • 2019 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)/Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) National Award of Merit in Electrical Systems Design Category
  • 2019 Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) – National Lighting Award of Excellence
