MBA student DeShaun Harris promoted at WSU School of Medicine

DeShaun Harris, a current M.B.A. student in the Mike Ilitch School of Business and a staff member in the Wayne State University School of Medicine, was promoted to the position of director of medical and student services in the Department of Academic and Student Programs and the Office of Medical Education.

He replaces Ron Spalding, who retired in January 2017. The position manages multiple key units in the School of Medicine's Medical Education division.

Harris previously managed the Kado Clinical Skills Center in the Mazurek Commons and was responsible for efficiently operating the center, where Wayne State medical students and other affiliates are trained in patient care.

He brings more than 17 years of corporate management and engineering experience, specializing in operations, project management and logistics gained before he joined Wayne State University.

"With his extensive knowledge of business operations, Mr. Harris is more than qualified to meet the needs and demands of the university as we continue the transition to modernizing our School of Medicine," said Richard Baker, M.D., vice dean for medical education and professor of ophthalmology.

Harris is nearing completion of his M.B.A. in international business and global supply chain management.
