Ilitch School students rise to top in Elevator Pitch Competition

On Friday, March 3, a select group of Wayne State University business students vied for scholarships and bragging rights during the second annual Mike Ilitch School of Business Elevator Pitch Competition at the Renaissance Center, riding to the top with executive judges from Quicken Loans, Ally Financial, Fiat Chrysler and Comerica Bank.

Winners were:

  • First place, $1,000, Marseda Kavalli of Royal Oak
  • Second place, $500, Robin Nickell of Portage
  • Third place, $250, Danny Callahan of Chesterfield

The students had the 80-second ride up 72 stories to give an “elevator speech” about themselves, describing their education, skills and career aspirations. They were evaluated on their ability to sell themselves and present a positive, professional first impression. Five finalists then pitched the panel of judges in a boardroom setting. Detroit TV stations WXYZ and WDIV covered the event.

The 2017 Elevator Pitch Competition was sponsored by the Mike Ilitch School of Business Alumni Association.
