Ilitch School students honored by FEI Detroit

The Detroit Chapter of Financial Executives International will honor Wayne State University finance students Matthew Albee and Christine Said with academic awards at its February Academic Dinner Meeting on Feb. 27.

Each year, FEI recognizes outstanding undergraduate and graduate students at universities in southeastern Michigan.

Albee, who is pursuing an M.B.A with a concentration in finance, hold a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan, as well as an additional master’s degree in Information Science.

Currently, he is working at General Motors’ Global Purchasing and Supply Chain as a senior buyer.

Albee said he is grateful to receive the award.

“I think the event speaks volumes about the quality of the business program at WSU, and especially the finance department,” he said. “Earning this award took hard work, which was motivated by excellent professors and a fascinating curriculum.”

“The real award is the professional and personal development I have received as a result of studying finance at the Mike Ilitch School of Business.”

Said graduated in December 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a GPA of 3.83. Prior to joining Wayne State in 2014, she previously studied accounting at Oakland Community College.

She said she felt honored and extremely grateful to be recognized for her hard work.

“Receiving this award and being recognized in such an honorable way by FEI is truly a reminder that nothing is impossible, and hard work pays off,” she said. “This honor pushes my drive and motivation to succeed in everything I do and everything I hope to accomplish.”

After working as a design release engineer assistant for GM, Said was just offered a direct position as a cost engineer for GM.

“I will be responsible for estimating material and tooling cost throughout the engineering development process, collaborating globally within the manufacturing process and with GM’s purchasing team for the purpose of supplier negotiations, and actively pursuing avenues to reduce costs to meet budgets,” she said.
