Ilitch School student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom

Five men's tennis student-athletes in the Mike Ilitch School of Business recently earned Academic All-GLIAC honors. Senior Harvey Reed (Management), juniors Griffin Mertz (Management Information Systems), Taylor Vane (Finance) and redshirt sophomore Derek Sammons (Accounting) all received All-Academic Excellence recognition for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Matts Westkamp, Finance major was honored with All-Academic Team accolades for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0-3.49. 

Additionally, junior Ashley Messina (Management Information Systems), a member of the WSU softball team, garnered All-Academic honors for the second consecutive season, moving up to the Excellence Team in 2018; and Courtney Hewitt (Marketing), a junior on the track and field team, earned her first All-Academic honor. 

To earn conference All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must be an active member of their respective teams at the end of the season, and cannot be a freshman or first-year transfer student. Student-athletes who meet that criteria and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0-3.49 are eligible for the All-Academic Award. Students-athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the All-Academic Excellence Award. 

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an acitve member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or first-year transfer student.
