Ilitch School selects local M&A attorney and former basketball standout as 2020 Emerging Leader

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business has announced Ian Larkin as the 2020 recipient of its signature Emerging Leader Award.

Founded in 2013, the Emerging Leader Award recognizes a more recent graduate of the Mike Ilitch School of Business who has already distinguished themselves as a rising star in their industry or community, and who shows even greater promise for the future.

Larkin graduated from the Ilitch School with a B.A. in business administration in 2013 and went on to earn his J.D. from the WSU Law School in 2017. He now works as a corporate attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions at Howard & Howard, a law firm consistently ranked among the best in the nation.

During his time as an undergrad at the Ilitch School, Larkin was a standout on the basketball court as well as in the classroom. He was voted Wayne State’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year for 2012-13 and was inducted into the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

Despite his busy schedule, the two-time WSU alum finds the time to stay engaged with his alma mater. He serves on the Ilitch School’s Alumni Council, where he helps build connections among his fellow 36,000 Ilitch School alumni and between alumni and students.

Larkin will be honored at the Ilitch School’s 40th annual Recognition and Awards Program (date TBD). The Recognition and Awards Program is also when the Ilitch School celebrates recipients of our Michigan Executive of the Year, Distinguished Alumni, Inspirational Teacher and Outstanding Student awards.
