Ilitch School remembers Fred Morgan (1945-2024)
It is with great sadness that we announce that Fred William Morgan passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
A full professor, Morgan retired from Wayne State University in December 2020, marking the end of a long and distinguished career in academia. He served as Chair of the WSU Marketing Department from 2009-2011.
Former business school colleagues remember him as incredibly generous. He made regular gifts to the Marketing Department general fund for over 40 years and was best known for giving his time to mentor junior faculty members.
Morgan graduated from Purdue University and earned his doctorate in marketing at Michigan State University. Between tenures at Wayne State University, Morgan served as chair of the Siegfried Professor in Marketing at the University of Oklahoma, and as an Adjunct Professor of Law.
Afterwards, he joined the University of Kentucky as the Ashland Professor of Marketing and served as Director of the M.B.A. Program and of the School of Management.
