Ilitch School hosts MICPA 2019 Spring Accounting Educators Conference

The Mike Ilitch School of Business hosted the Michigan Association of Public Accountants 2019 Spring Accounting Educators Conference on May 31, welcoming 60 faculty from colleges and universities around the state to explore new teaching opportunities and tools and exchange pedagogical tips.

Chaired by Ilitch Business accounting lecturer Deborah Habel, the conference included four presentations, one of which was given by Myles Stern, associate professor of accounting at the Ilitch School, who explained various types of data analytics and where they are used today in accounting practice.

Presentations were followed by a “lightning round” in which a panel of six accounting professors shared innovative and feasible pedagogical techniques that can be easily implemented to improve instruction. The conference concluded with a refresher on professional ethics rules specific to the State of Michigan.
