Ilitch School graduate advisor honored as a “Champion of Diversity and Inclusion”

Wayne State University will host its third annual Spirit of Community Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 11, in the Student Center Ballroom. The awards recognize outstanding community service by university students, faculty and staff.

Among those being recognized this year is Shanese Ross, an academic advisor in the Mike Ilitch School of Business’ Graduate Programs Office.

The awards recognize faculty, staff and students with an established and successful record in creating and sustaining a diverse, inclusive and welcoming campus. Through this recognition, the university aims to increase understanding and appreciation of diversity and inclusion efforts throughout the Wayne State community.

Other 2019 honorees are:

  • Team: National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE)
  • Student: Jami Pittman, doctoral student, Clinical Psychology 
  • Faculty Members:
    • Simone Chess, Ph.D., associate chair and associate professor, English
    • Andre Furtado, Ph.D., assistant professor, Mathematics
