How one architecture firm continues to define Detroit's skyline

With the possible exception of the great Albert Kahn, no architectural entity has done more to define Detroit's skyline than the firm now known as SmithGroupJJR. The firm did it in the 1920s with a bevy of notable downtown skyscrapers, and they're doing it today with projects likely to rank among the city's next generation of defining structures. Today, the firm has designed the Mike Ilitch School of Business for Wayne State University and the Little Caesars new headquarters building near the Fox Theatre that will break ground this week. The projects should inject a spirited shot of contemporary design into Detroit’s cityscape.
