Four Women's Tennis Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-GLIAC Recognition

Komar, Laynes, Mandair and Ruyssen honored for work in the classroom.

DETROIT -- Four student-athletes on the 2022-23 Wayne State University women's tennis team were recognized with GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) All-Academic Team accolades, including three who received All-Academic Excellence Team recognition.  Over the last six years, 31 Warrior women's tennis players have earned GLIAC All-Academic honors.

Criteria states the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, not a freshman or a first-year transfer student.

The three student-athletes receiving All-Academic Excellence Team honors for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were senior Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage), along with juniors Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) and Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais).

This is the third consecutive year Laynes (Management) was recognized, and the second straight season Mandair (Philosophy Honors) was honored.  Ruyssen was first-year eligible after coming to WSU in the fall of 2021.

Junior Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland / Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy) was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0-3.49.  Komar is majoring in Psychology.

Wayne State set a school record with 254 Academic All-GLIAC honorees during the 2022-23 academic year.  WSU has produced 2,071 Academic All-GLIAC recipients over the last 11 years.
