Ally named key sponsor of Ilitch School Corporate Mentor Program

Ally, a leading digital financial services company, has been named key sponsor and partner of the Mike Ilitch School of Business’ Corporate Mentor Program.

The Corporate Mentor Program affords Mike Ilitch School of Business students the opportunity to be matched with a professional corporate mentor and work one-on-one throughout the entire academic year.

“The Corporate Mentor Program is a career-focused mentorship program for undergraduate business students who are the first in their family to get a bachelor’s degree in the U.S.,” said Amber Conway, co-director of the program. “A lot of the mentors we have right now are custom-matched for the student, so we have everything from small business owners to Fortune 500 executives.”

Ally’s support ensures the program will continue to allow students to work closely with their mentors to help move their interests forward, gain exposure to the day-to-day world of work, and experience other professional opportunities for success after college.

“Ally is committed to doing it right in our communities, and participation in the Wayne State Corporate Mentoring program is a great example of this commitment,” said Tom Elkins, senior vice president of business analytics at Ally and alumnus of the Mike Ilitch School of Business. “Associates at Ally want to have a tangible impact in their communities. Through our participation in this program, our associates are able to help first-generation college students successfully navigate the unique challenges of transitioning from university life to a professional career.”

Along with supporting the program financially, Ally supplies at least 10 mentors every cycle and provides guest speakers for events.

“The culture at Ally is a great fit for the program,” said Elkins. “Our focus on good leadership behaviors as well as an emphasis on diversity and inclusion, make our associates great mentors for these students.”

“By participating in the program, Ally is exposed to a large group of highly engaged, talented and well-educated students, which is exciting for a growing, innovative company like Ally. We are proud to participate and excited to sponsor this cutting-edge program,” he added.
