30 Ilitch School football student-athletes part of record-breaking 54 honorees with GLIAC All-Academic distinction

Fifty four members of the 2021 Wayne State University football team were recognized with GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) All-Academic accolades. The 54 recipients edge the previous school record of 51 set a year ago. Over the last 10 years, 366 Warrior football student-athletes have earned GLIAC All-Academic honors.

Of the 54 athletes honored, 30 are Mike Ilitch School of Business students.

Receiving GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honors for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 were graduate students Luke Bevilacqua (M.B.A.), Lane Potter (M.B.A.) and Reid Thompson (M.B.A.), redshirt senior Shavez Hawkins, Jr. (management), redshirt juniors Chuckie Anthony (marketing) and Noah Nicklin (finance), redshirt sophomores Ty Potter (marketing), Kane Quinlan (marketing), Drake Reid (finance), Jarrett Short (finance) and Jay Solano (accounting), along with redshirt freshmen Maxx Fisher (global supply chain management), Blake Gilliam (marketing), Caleb Green (finance), Eli Haddad (global supply chain management), Jeremy Taras (management) and Brayden Vredeveld (marketing).

Bevilacqua received his fifth consecutive GLIAC All-Academic recognition. Lane Potter and Thompson were honored for the fourth straight season, while Anthony and Nicklin were recognized for the third time in their careers. Ty Potter, Quinlan, Reid, Short and Solano were honored for the second straight year.

Fisher, Gilliam, Green, Haddad, Taras and Vredeveld are recipients in their first season eligible. Hawkins, Jr. earned his first accolade after transferring to WSU in the fall of 2020.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team (cumulative GPA of 3.0-3.49) were graduate students Tyler Beck (M.B.A.) and Cooper Kukal (M.B.A.), redshirt senior Will Butler (management), redshirt juniors Charles Ellington III (information systems management), Nolan Kimmey (marketing) and Joe Wright III (accounting), redshirt sophomores Lukas Cusac (management), Dayton Keller (finance), Max Nicklin (marketing), Chrishoun Roberts (finance) and McKinley Underwood (accounting), along with redshirt freshmen David Green (finance) and Myles Harris (accounting).

Kukal was recognized for the fourth time in his career, while Kimmey and Wright III received their third consecutive GLIAC All-Academic recognition. Butler, Cusac, Ellington III, Nicklin, Roberts and Underwood were honored for the second straight season.

Earning the award for the first time were Green and Harris. In addition, Beck was honored for the first time after being a graduate transfer in the fall of 2020.
