Message from the dean

One way I measure success is by the bustle of the Prentis Building. This fall, the Mike Ilitch School of Business welcomed 2,500 undergraduates and more than 1,200 graduate students — the largest graduate class since 2008 and a 100% increase in just two years. And, this happens at a time when enrollment in U.S. M.B.A. programs is down 11% since 2009, according to a survey by AACSB International.

Students say they are choosing the Mike Ilitch School of Business to take advantage of our focus on career-based knowledge and our GMAT waiver for qualified professionals, and because they want to be part of — and learn from — Detroit's resurgence.

A big part of the city's upswing is happening in the District Detroit, where we held a groundbreaking ceremony in July. When our new building is completed in 2018, our students will be embedded in Detroit's economic center.

You may have noticed we have a new virtual face to reflect our upward momentum. The Mike Ilitch School of Business website is now mobile friendly and streamlined to better highlight our growth.

This growth has been greatly enhanced by the support of our alumni, partner companies, donors and friends. It's an exciting time to get involved in the school, whether as a volunteer in our Corporate Mentor Program for first-generation college students, hiring an Ilitch School intern, putting your name on part of our new building or simply following us on social media and sharing our stories.

Stay tuned for updates. Detroit's Business School has much more in store.

Sincerely,

Robert Forsythe
Dean
