WSU Mike Ilitch School of Business to host research workshop for vehicle supply chain practitioners

The Mike Ilitch School of Business will host a daylong research workshop on vehicle industry supply chain management on Monday, May 2, 2016.

The workshop focuses on critical issues the vehicle industry will face over the next 5 to 10 years.

“The goal of this workshop is to bridge the industry with the academic community to drive conceptually novel research that also has real impacts on supply chain management practices in the auto industry,” said Tingting Yan, assistant professor of global supply chain management.

Representatives from major vehicle industry OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), suppliers and auto industry associations will attend and are expected to offer feedback on research ideas and potentially provide support to research projects.

“The workshop gives auto practitioners an opportunity to tap into the cutting edge supply chain management knowledge to facilitate their current managerial decision making processes, as well as trigger new research that they believe to be important to the auto industry in the next 5 to 10 years,” she said. “Academic researchers have the potential to identify important and interesting research projects to work on, people who share similar interests to work with and possible financial/personnel research supports from participating auto companies.”

The following academic and industry experts will be in attendance: Robert Monczka, research fellow at Wayne State University and professor emeritus, Arizona State University; John Henke, CEO of Planning Perspectives and publisher of the Working Relations Index; Bill Hurles, executive director emeritus of General Motors Supply Chain; Michael Silvio, director of supply chain for Cooper Standards; Mark Cieslak, Vehicle Chief Engineer Global Compact SUV for General Motors; and Joel Karczewski, vice president of business development, AIAG.

The workshop will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the community room in the Undergraduate Library. For more information, contact Yan at tingting.yan@wayne.edu.
