WJBK Fox 2: Marick Masters on Ford, UAW negotiations

Wayne State University labor expert Marick Masters talked about the Ford and UAW negotiations on a new four-year contract, and if a strike is possible. The UAW wants to use the General Motors contract as a template for Ford and Fiat Chrysler. Is Ford in a position to make the same kind of deal? “I think Ford is in a position to make relatively the same deal,” Masters said. “I think it's highly unlikely that they'd be able to deviate much from the so called pattern that was set at GM. I think they are certainly willing to do what's necessary to get the same kind of deal that GM struck with the United Auto Workers. I don't think they will allow themselves to be short-changed in this regard. But at the same time, they are very realistic. They don't want have to go out on strike.”
