Winter registration begins Oct. 31 with new classes on schedule

Priority registration for winter 2017 Wayne State University classes begins Monday, Oct. 31, and Mike Ilitch School of Business undergraduates are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor as soon as possible in preparation. Appointments are available at WSU’s main campus in Midtown Detroit, as well as the university’s satellite campuses in Farmington Hills, Clinton Township and Livonia.

A complete list of satellite campus advising dates for business undergraduates is available on the WSU events calendar.

Every day from Oct. 31 through Nov. 4, walk-in advising is also available in the Ilitch School Office of Undergraduate Student Services (Prentis 200). Beginning Nov. 8, walk-in advising will return to Tuesdays only. Check the WSU events calendar for dates and times.

New classes offered winter 2017

Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EI 5000)

Taught by Gary Shields, this class is the gateway to the new 15-credit Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The course provides a foundation for students to develop, launch and support startup ventures. It is open to students who have completed at least 60 credit hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.

Special Topics in Information Systems: Mobile Application Development (ISM 5670)

This hands-on class, designed and taught by information systems management faculty member and Director of Computing Services Director Richard Lerman, will provide a foundation for understanding the value of mobile applications in enterprise, as well as teach students to design, create and publish mobile applications for the Android OS using MIT’s App Inventor.

About priority registration

The staggered priority registration schedule grants registration access by class standing throughout the week of Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, allowing upper-level students to register for the courses they need to complete their degree requirements before those classes reach their enrollment limits. The process is designed to reduce time to graduation and enhance connectivity to the online registration system.

Priority registration is cumulative, meaning that once students have reached their assigned day for registration, they can continue registering on subsequent days as well.

Winter 2017 priority registration schedule:

  • Graduate students: Monday, Oct. 31, 7 a.m.-midnight
  • Seniors (88+ credits): Tuesday, Nov. 1, 7 a.m.-midnight
  • Juniors (56-87 credits) and APEX Scholars: Wednesday, Nov. 2, 7 a.m.-midnight
  • Sophomores (29-55 credits): Thursday, Nov. 3, 7 a.m.-midnight
  • Freshmen (0-28 credits) and post-baccalaureates: Friday, Nov. 4, 7 a.m.-midnight

Class standing (senior, junior, sophomore or freshman) is based on the number of credit hours a student has completed at the time of registration. Class standing does not include course credits a student is currently taking but has not yet completed.

Students will need to resolve any financial aid issues before registering for courses.

Registration continues through Dec. 31 for winter courses.
